A look at the star pieces during the three-day auction in Paris of the art collection belonging to the late French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and his longtime partner, Pierre Berge.
_ Two bronze fountainheads at the center of a spat with China — which said the sculptures, depicting the heads of a rat and a rabbit, were stolen and wanted them back — sold to a telephone bidder or bidders for euro28 million ($36 million).
_ Henri Matisse’s 1911 oil painting “Les coucous, tapis bleu et rose,” (The Cowslips, Blue and Rose Fabric) fetched the sale’s highest price, euro32.1 million ($41.1 million). That was also a record auction price for a work by the French artist, whose bold-colored collages inspired Saint Laurent’s designs during the early 1980s.
